Rachel Rabkin Peachman is a writer, editor, and author with more than 25 years of experience. Bio
Currently, Rachel is a senior editor at Forbes. Throughout her career, she has been a staff health editor at magazines including Hearst’s Healthy Living, Family Circle, Parents, OK! (where she helped launch the US edition), and Parenting. She was also a deputy of special projects at Consumer Reports. While there, her investigation into dangerous infant sleepers and unstable dressers spurred the recall of millions of products and led to Congressional hearings, new safety laws, and updated industry standards. Her infant sleeper articles also won the 2020 Deadline Club Award for magazine investigative reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists and was a finalist for the 2020 National Magazine Award in public interest journalism.
Other journalism awards include: the 2016 Kathleen M. Foley Journalist Award given by the American Pain Society; the 2016 min Editorial & Design Award for an investigative cover story she wrote for Consumer Reports about physicians on probation; the Excellence in Media Award from the Skin Cancer Foundation; and two Gold Triangle Awards from the American Academy of Dermatology.
Her book, When Children Feel Pain: From Everyday Aches to Chronic Conditions, co-authored with Anna C. Wilson, Ph.D., a pediatric pain psychologist at OHSU, was published in August 2022 by Harvard University Press and is the winner of the 2023 National Association of Science Writers “Science in Society” Book Award.
Rachel earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.S. from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She was a fellow of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing, and is currently a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association of Science Writers.
