If your fall afternoons are all about cheering your daughter as she races down the field, you’ve got company: About 35 million U.S. kids play sports. That’s a wonderful statistic, considering the mental and physical benefits of athletic activities. But there is a flip side: More than 3.5 million children under the age of 14 endure sports injuries each year. To help you learn how to protect your child— and handle injuries—we turned to Amanda Weiss Kelly, M.D., director of pediatric sports medicine at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, in Cleveland, OH.
